feuchtwanger1.jpgfeuchtwanger2.jpg

1837 1C Feuchtwanger Cent MS67 NGC. Low-120, HT-268, Breen 6-I, R.1.

Lovely powder-blue, peach, and yellow-gold hues endow this lustrous and magnificently preserved Superb Gem. The surfaces do not show any planchet streaks or laminations that often plague this popular issue. A bit soft on the EN in CENT, as always for the type, due to metal flow to the high relief eagle's body on the opposite side. Listed on page 375 of the 2008 Guide Book. From The Liberty Collection, Part Three.

Helmeted Liberty Half Dollar Patterns

1877-Judd-1526-1.jpg1877-Judd-1526-2.jpg

1877 50C Barber's Liberty Head Half Dollar, Judd-1526, Pollock-1694, High R.7

These dies are attributed to William Barber. The obverse has a head of Liberty facing left, wearing a crested helmet inscribed LIBERTY with an eagle as part of the design. Above is the motto IN GOD WE TRUST with seven stars left, six right, and the date below. The reverse is the same design described for Judd- 1524. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This is an impressive Gem with pale gold and iridescent toning over silver surfaces. It is an excellent specimen for its cameo contrast on both sides, the lustrous designs surrounded by deeply mirrored fields. Only four examples of this pattern issue are currently known.

1877-Judd-1528-1.jpg1877-Judd-1528-2.jpg

1877 50C Half Dollar, Judd-1528, Pollock-1696, High R.7

The central device of the obverse die is a helmeted head of Liberty facing left, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST above and 1877 below. The helmet has a prominent crest, an embossed eagle design, and a visor with LIBERTY inscribed in incuse letters. Thirteen peripheral stars are arranged seven to the left and six to the right. The reverse features a small heraldic eagle, clutching arrows and an olive branch. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs above and the denomination HALF DOLLAR below. E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed above the eagle's head. Struck in silver with a reeded edge.

Barber's intricate obverse design was apparently inspired by a sketch drawn by Christian Gobrecht in the late 1830s, when he was chief engraver at the Mint. Andrew Pollock notes that this drawing of Liberty wearing a Corinthian style helmet with an embossed eagle is illustrated in the article "From the Drawingboard of a Coin-Engraver" by Elvira Clain-Stefanelli.

Amazonian Dollar Pattern

1872-Judd-1206-1.jpg1872-Judd-1206-2.jpg

1872 $1 Amazonian Dollar, Judd-1206, Pollock-1346, R.7, PR65 Red and Brown PCGS

The obverse exhibits a seated figure of Liberty, her right hand above the head of an eagle, her left forearm resting on top of a shield, and her left hand holding a sword. Around, 13 stars with the date below. The reverse has an eagle with spread wings, clutching three arrows in its right claw, its left leg raised up with the talon supporting a shield with an olive branch in front. A scroll across the shield is inscribed IN GOD WE TRUST. Around is the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with the denomination HALF DOL below. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This is one of several different designs the depict a full view of Liberty in a seated position, obviously intended to be an answer to Christian Gobrecht's design that had been in use since 1836.

German States: Hamburg. Free City gold Proof 10 Mark 1912-J PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC

Hamburg. Free City gold Proof 10 Mark 1912-J PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC, Hamburg mint, KM608, Jaeger-211. A radiant proof jewel, fully mirrored in the smooth fields and expertly frosted on the raised design. Close inspection shows precious few flaws and in fact, if the term "pristine" were used to describe the present coin, we doubt we'd find objection from even the most conservative viewer. An undeniable beauty, and as such, ideal for the expert German collector or merely the seeker of exceptionally preserved type. From The Kaiser Collection of German Gold Coins
